The Ox Cart is Rolling

The Ox Cart is Rolling!
December 2005

If you are searching for the perfect Christmas gift, it is not necessary to take a trip to Grand Forks for Lauraine Snelling’s booksHelp out our local historical society by purchasing her latest publications right here in Drayton.   Saturday Morning and Washington are now at the OCTHS bookstore in Valley News & Views building. These books plus the Red River of the North series, Way of Women, Return to Red River series, Dakota, Healing Quilt, The Gift, and The Dakotah Treasurers, including her latest Amethyst, are available for you to purchase and they are all autographed.

The Society gathered this past week to prepare the candy bags for Old Fashioned Christmas.  We also trimmed the Christmas tree and a tree for the auction.  These trees were trimmed like the first Christmas tree in Blessing in the Red River of the North series books by Lauraine Snelling – popcorn strings, carded wool, pinecones, gingham ornaments, candles, yarn, ribbon.

“Recognize Your Talent” is the subject of our guest speaker, Lauraine Snelling, for a banquet on April 27, 2006, 5:30 - mark this day on your calendar.  Tickets are available at $15.00.  The silent auction will start prior to the meal.  Earlier in the day from 10:00 to 2:00 Ms. Snelling will give a writer’s session.  Cost for this session is $25, which includes the noon meal.  You may preregister by sending in your fee to OCTHS PO Box 263, Drayton, ND 58225.

Do you have the third weekend in July set aside for Riverfest in Drayton?  “Paddling Through The Past” will be the event to attend that weekend.  If you saw “A River Runs Beside It” in 2003, you must not miss this one. If you are interested in helping with this production, contact one of the officers of the Society.

Our web site has been down, but we hope to get it back up shortly.  Our next quarterly meeting will be January 23, 2006.  You are invited to attend this meeting to see what the organization is accomplishing in Drayton.

We thank you for your donations and support for the organization.  All of YOU are helping to keep the Ox Cart Rolling!
