The Ox Cart is Rolling

The Ox Cart is Rolling!
November 2006

Have you noticed the activity in front of the museum?  You are welcome to stop and help the Ox Cart Trails Historical Society build a soddie like the one that was featured in Lauraine Snelling’s book Red River of the North.  Did your grandparents or great grandparents live in a soddie? Share your story with us.  This is another of the items that is being portrayed to the community of Drayton.  Old Fashioned Christmas will again show you a Christmas tree like the Bjorklund’s trimmed from Ms. Snelling’s books.  Soon you will see other items, watch for them.

Be sure to check out the new web site www.blessingnd.com.  You will notice that the pictures are of the early days right here in Drayton.  If you haven’t had the chance to read the books Red River of the North, this will give you a brief detail of their contents.   Enter the recipe contest that is part of this site.  The proclamation that Mayor Ardis Olson signed for the town of Blessing is included on one of the pages.  This proclamation is also displayed on the sign in front of the museum.

When you are cleaning out the attic or an older home, be sure to check over the documents that you find.  Should you have any questions whether they include some history of the area, call one of the historical Society members. Many times this information is what the Society is looking for.  Perhaps you would like to know more about your own family.  We have an extensive genealogy program of the area. Write down your family history or make a tape to preserve this for generations to come.

A tape from the pageant, “Paddling Through The Past”, performed at Riverfest 2006 and from the previous pageant “A River Runs Beside It” performed in 2004 are available for you to purchase.  If interested, call Marlys Boll 701-454-6103 or email president@oxcarttrails.net.

Look us up on the web site www.oxcarttrails.net. New members are always welcome.  Help us keep the Ox Cart Rolling.
