The Ox Cart is Rolling

The Ox Cart is Rolling!
September 2004

Ox Cart Trails Historical Society held its annual meeting July 18 at H G Johnson Memorial Hall. Since then the Society has been busy cataloging and working on the museum building.

The local contractors have been asked for bids to reside the west side of the museum where needed and replace some boards on the rest of the building. A special meeting will be called to make this decision. A preservative has been put on the oxcart and the deck.

Documenting the collections at the museum has been the main project the last few weeks. Members are encouraged to gather as much information about a donated item as possible. It is almost impossible to document this information later. Work is being done on the centennial plat that was put together by Ervin Schumacher and was in Cavalier for years. Hopefully this can be put on display in the near future

Activities have been discussed such as displays through the State Historical Society and a family history project for our young people to work on genealogy in their own families. Putting a scrapbook together for the Society and making videos of Drayton “now” and “then” were also discussed. A spaghetti meal for the public in October in conjunction with Fright Night and a Couch Potato Sale in February or March will be planned. The Society will package the Santa bags for Old Fashioned Christmas and set up the Christmas tree for that event which is December 4.

The public should check out the web site of the Society. Pictures of the award winning float from Riverfest, information and pictures of some of our previous projects, and membership information is posted on this site www.oxcarttrails.net

Memberships are for the year of August 1 though July 31. Single membership is $10, family $15, life time $300. You may mail your membership dues to PO Box 213, Drayton, ND 58225.

Officers for the coming year are Marlys Boll, president; Saralee Hoselton, vice president; Earlene Lasch, treasurer, and Shirley Raney, secretary. Should you have any items of interest for the Society, you may contact these officers or any of the members.

Come and help us keep the Ox Cart rolling! The museum is open upon request by calling one of the officers. We will be happy to show off our displays of interesting photos, histories, and memorabilia from the Drayton area.
