The Ox Cart is Rolling

The Ox Cart is Rolling!
January 2007

The soddie is almost complete; we’re looking for some more nice weather.  Watch for activity in the soddie next summer.  This soddie is like the one that is featured in Lauraine Snelling’s book Red River of the North.  Share your stories with us about your grandparents or great grandparents who lived in soddies.

There are mugs with the OCTHS logo and mugs with Blessing/Drayton logo on the side available for you to purchase.  We also have “Ingeborg Bjorklund’s Red River Cookbook” from Lauraine Snelling for sale as well as all of Ms Snelling’s other books.  Stop at our book store in Valley News & Views to purchase these items. “Sophia”, who follows “Ellie”, is due to be out in July; and we will have them in stock.

Blessing/Drayton was featured in “North Dakota Horizons”, winter issue.  These sell for $5.00 each and are available at a book store in GF or Fargo.  OCTHS has purchased a few copies - if you are interested in a copy, call or email.

Did you read the 4-part story “The Lonely Donkey” on the web site www.blessingnd.com?  Lauraine wrote this when she was a teenager.  There are also letters from Ingeborg.  The pictures are of the early days right here in Drayton/Blessing.  The History Section gives you a brief detail of the books Red River of the North.   The Contest Section asks you for your favorite household hint. You have until January 31 to enter that contest.

A DVD from the pageants, “Paddling Through The Past”, performed at Riverfest 2006 and “A River Runs Beside It” performed in 2004 is available for you to purchase.  If interested, call or email. Cost is $15 for the disc with both performances.

Ox Cart Trails Historical Society’s next meeting will be Monday, February 4, 5:30 pm which includes a light supper at H. G. Johnson Memorial Hall.  We have many projects on our plate, and we need Drayton’s help to do all this.  New members are always welcome. Our web site is www.oxcarttrails.net.   Should you have questions regarding any of these activities or to reserve a mug, a copy of the magazine or to order the DVD call 701-454-6103 or email president@oxcarttrails.net.  Help us keep the Ox Cart Rolling.
